This training teaches staff how to use Harm Reduction interventions with transitional age youth, with a particular focus on our roles as Youth Advocates, Education Employment Specialists, and Housing Specialists. Harm Reduction is a spectrum of practical strategies and ideas that reduce the negative consequences youth experience with drugs, sex, and other potentially dangerous behaviors. We will learn how to talk to youth about drugs in a non-judgmental way, prevent and respond to overdose, and help youth prevent STIs and pregnancy. We’ll learn about how the youth’s current mindset can guide our response. We’ll discuss special considerations for LGBTQ youth, immigrant youth, and youth with a history of sex work or trafficking.
