Training Summary: The goal of the In Our Shoes project is to help professionals understand inequity, economic instability, and health disparities in our community through the eyes of those impacted the most. Through sharing our experiences and hearing our perspective, we hope to help bridge the gap between professional service providers and the very communities they are meant to serve. We hope through this unique experience we can collaborate in creating realistic logical and sustainable solutions for our community! Class Objectives: (what knowledge, ideas or skills will participants explore, learn, practice, etc during the training) 1. Build foundational knowledge of trauma and trauma-informed care. 2. Understand the relationship between trauma and the experience of homelessness. 3. Learn how to advocate for clients in and out of the office. 4. Gain a deeper understanding of factors that influence our health outcomes and understand the complexity of choice when options are limited. 5. Participants will understand the relationship between substance abuse and trauma responses and how they perpetuate each other’s existence. Participants will be able to: 1. Participants will be able to use their new lens to help advocate for clients to community programs, law enforcement and other agencies. 2. Participants will gain a deeper understanding and empathy for the history of clients they serve; allowing for innovation and creativity in how they provide services to clients that better demonstrates a client centered approach. 3. Through continued connection to the project participants can continue to ask for support and keep up on current issues affecting clients they serve.
