This training will demonstrate that the alignment of “Cultural Humility” & “Trauma-Informed Care” is the best approach to supportive care for youth and families, especially those who are system-involved or at high risk of system involvement. Every person is a unique combination of cultural traits that are influenced by personal & familial experiences. Thus, every individual has a personal culture that cannot be taught through bullet points but can only be understood through the lens of Cultural Humility. For people in a supportive role, a mindset of Cultural Humility recognizes the person we are supporting as the expert on their culture & acknowledges the individuality & unique experiences of youth and families who are System-Involved or at High Risk of System Involvement. Furthermore, this training will expand on adopting a cultural humility mindset with the integration of trauma-informed practices. Participants will be informed through presenter instruction, self-reflection, & exploration of their personal culture. To increase participant engagement & content retention, the presenter will utilize the chat box, guided participant discussion, small group sharing utilizing breakout rooms, plus Questions & Answers.
