In this workshop, we will demonstrate through theory, case studies, and practice how to work with adolescents. In Brainstorm, Dan Siegel described adolescence as the “second dozen” years and as a time of polarities: Mark McConville in his book, Adolescence, describes this as a time of both “Neediness and self-sufficiency,” “I can do it myself, even if I need help.” Using the Oaklander Model of Gestalt Play Therapy, participants will learn about this crucial and fascinating developmental phase, including the importance of the I-Thou relationship–the non-hierarchical, and respectful connection between therapist and client. This relationship allows the client to feel understood and safe, thus enabling their ability to strengthen their sense of self, regarding issues unique to them. The proposed training will teach how to apply the theory and technique of projective experiences that particularly apply and appeal to adolescents.
