Foster Care Training

This course will examine how providers who work with system-involved youth and families can hold a trauma-informed frame on the task of assessment – both during the ‘assessment phase’ and throughout the therapeutic relationship. We will analyze the assessment through the principles of trauma-informed care, and discuss strategies to provide containment, model safe boundaries, and center strengths. This workshop will also dive into specific, developmentally appropriate strategies to assess for (and respond to) stigmatized experiences and behaviors, including past and on-going trauma, risk, substance use. The course will be a combination of didactic presentation and small and large group discussion.
