In June, two significant holidays are recognized for the experiences and legacies of their communities: Juneteenth and Pride month. Chosen Collective encourages people to honor both Black and LGBTQIA+ communities throughout June by reviewing historical and contemporary examples which connect them. This workshop reviews practices of self-education, solidarity building, and intersectional allyship for — three critical tools essential for supporting and addressing needs of Black and Brown LGBTQIA+ youth. Participants will also receive a historical overview of events and leaders who have advocated for LGBTQIA+ and Black rights in tandem, rather than as separate movements. Modeling the importance of intersectional lens in understanding, addressing and empowering BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ youth.
