Training Summary: THIS TRAINING WILL BE PRESENTED IN SPANISH.
Working with the Spanish Speaking families in service delivery can present unique challenges, including addressing complex challenges related to immigration trauma that many families have experienced. Youth and families served by community-based agencies usually seek out services to address a multitude of needs, such as symptoms and behaviors stemming from trauma, but also other psychological and socio-political challenges. Therefore, providers that serve this population often feel “stretched” in trying to meet the needs of the families as well as work towards engaging families in a way that feels linguistically and culturally appropriate. Therefore, this training will support bilingual Spanish-speaking providers in practicing their bilingualism when providing services to this population, especially in the area of trauma informed principles, as well as support in building on their culturally responsive interventions.
Class Objectives: (what knowledge, ideas or skills will participants explore, learn, practice, etc during the training)
1. Review common challenges experienced when providing therapeutic services to Spanish-Speaking youth and families
2. Identify trauma informed and culturally responsive approaches and interventions that support Spanish Speaking Latine families
3. Practice bilingual skills in applying learned approaches and interventions
Participants will be able to:
1. Participants will utilize strategies discussed in presentation to increase linguistically responsive engagement with families and youth, and linguistically responsive case planning.
2. Participants will have better perspective on linguistic nuances of a youth’s family when approaching system-involved youth
