Training Summary: This training will provide an overview of the intersection of shame and trauma. Trauma survivors carry heavy burdens of shame that impact all aspects of life. Despite how prevalent shame is amongst foster youth, it’s rarely discussed. This training will also focus on strategies to heal shame with system-involved youth and young adults who have experienced trauma. Participants will also learn about self-compassion and strategies to practice self-compassion when supporting system-involved youth and young adults who have experienced trauma including Foster Youth and Commercially Sexually Exploited Children. Class Objectives: (what knowledge, ideas or skills will participants explore, learn, practice, etc during the training) 1. Participants will be able to identify at least 2 factors contributing to the shame trauma survivors experience 2. Participants will be able to describe at least 1 way system involved youth tend to respond when they experience shame 3. Participants will be able to describe the 3 components of self-compassion Participants will be able to: 1. Participants will be able to teach system-involved or foster youth how to increase their self-compassion. 2. Participants will be able to respond more empathically when system-involved or foster youth experience shame triggers.
