Providers and caregivers supporting youth in care are often exposed to high levels of trauma content involving narratives of abuse, neglect, and suffering. Those working with youth are often impacted by secondary traumatic stress, compassion fatigue, and burnout. This interactive training is designed to address the sustainability and self-care needs of those working with children, youth, and caregivers or parents impacted by traumatic life events. Participants are encouraged to verbalize their understanding of multiple aspects of compassion fatigue. This training will the benefits of using a screening tool to determine traumatic impact and levels of stress for caregivers of youth in care. Several approaches will be reviewed that serve to address the most challenging aspects of their compassion fatigue and regain a state of neuro-physiological (mind-body) regulation, recovery and resilience.
