This course provides an introduction to understanding developmental progress of infants and young children , with a focus on working with young children who have experienced prior traumas and adversities within the context of their primary, early caregiving relationships. This course will review the field of infant mental health, introduce major developmental tasks between birth and age 5, and provide an overview of attachment concepts and relationship-based principles within the framework of complex trauma. This course will also provide an introduction and discussion of how to understand developmental and emotional/behavioral needs, as well as developmentally appropriate engagement strategies with young children.
