Youth in foster care who have transgressed towards other youth are at increased risk of facing strict punishment for their actions. This training introduces service providers to the fundamental theories, principles and frameworks required to effectively design and guide Restorative Justice Practices for youth-serving systems. Participants will explore the difference between authoritarian, punitive, and restorative justice systems in order to identify the values and principles that support each one. This training will look at justice systems that exist and the relationship between the values that service providers have about justice, and the justice or discipline systems in communities surrounding foster youth and families.
