Western approaches to mental and physical health care often fail to effectively treat ethnic minorities and underrepresented populations. This is especially true for clients from Mesoamerican cultures, whose spiritual values are often ignored by well-meaning but culturally insensitive doctors, psychotherapists, psychologists, foster care staff and social workers. This training will provide pertinent information from herbal remedies proven effective by scientific testing, to therapeutic drumming. Mesoamerican healing practices have much to offer both their own communities and the world at large-powerful healing techniques that public health and mental health services cannot afford to ignore.
