Somatics shifts the impacts of traumatic experiences from a place of understanding the deep connection between body, mind, and spirit. By acknowledging that our bodies are also deeply impacted by our experiences of trauma, somatic work engages the physical body as an important site of healing and change. We know that for real and lasting change to happen we must not only think differently, but also be able to take new actions in the world. Thus somatics offers this re-integration and realignment of body and mind toward lasting change. Participants spend the day learning and practicing somatic frameworks and skills for working with trauma and building long term resilience. This course supports those working with system involved youth in both developing personal healing/resilience practices, and in engaging traumatized youth and families in a more holistic and transformative way. This course provides a deeper understanding of the impacts of trauma, including PTSD and Vicarious/Secondary trauma, and offers effective tools to begin moving towards healing and resilience.
