Youth leaving foster care face challenges in obtaining and maintaining their own housing. This training will outline how housing law applies to youth in extended foster care and to youth who have left foster care. It will review the rights and responsibilities of both tenants and landlords, so that service and housing providers can better support youth in complying with their lease as well as advocating when necessary. An attorney from Bay Area Legal Aid will present legal information on eviction procedures and rights; laws against housing discrimination; and how tenants and landlords might respond to unsafe and/or unhealthy housing conditions.
