A comprehensive family screening provides both the caseworker and the family with a greater understanding of how a family’s strengths, needs, and resources affect a child’s safety, permanency, and well-being. Some core considerations for screening foster youth’s needs and strengths will be discussed. The importance of using a strengths-based, family-centered, culturally sensitive, and individualized process will be reviewed. Frameworks for sharing results of the screening and assessment process will be discussed.
