Deciding to become a foster and or adoptive parent is a big step. Understanding the components of foster care and adoption is crucial to understanding if this is a right path for you. The Treatment Foster Care Training Series will help participants understand what fostering and adopting is all about. This process furnishes you with information about the youth who come into the foster care system. The classes also boost your knowledge and confidence to meet the challenge of taking youth into your home and to be sure you are ready to follow through on the commitment.

This class will discuss the role of Community Care License (CCL) in foster care. Discussion over the regulations that oversee foster care will be reviewed, in addition to prudent parenting, reporting requirements, such as serious incident reports (SIRs), important paperwork, discipline techniques and standards in the foster home will be discussed. Foster youth that identify as LGBTQ at times struggle in foster care due to stigmas. In addition, youth that been commercially sexually exploited are a special population that require a deeper understanding of the issues and barriers they face to their well-being. Because foster youth can come from a variety of backgrounds, this class will discuss on the importance of being equipped or seeking support to work with youth that may be placed in a foster home.
