This training will walk the participant through the primary neurological structures that support learning and relationships. Participants will walk away from this training understanding how to support executive functioning in both children and adults. We will also outline how structures in the limbic system, impact availability for learning and relationship. Mental flexibility is needed to successfully make use of psychotherapy, integrate new content in the classroom, and maintain healthy social engagement. The skill of mental flexibility is negatively impacted by trauma, poverty, and environmental stress. Participants will gain a greater understand of how the behaviors of other impact their capacity for mental flexibility and how to regain power over one’s own brain functions to remain fully present in relationships. This training has been designed to support a trans-disciplinary audience, as the concepts presented impact social emotional development and do not require the scope of practice needed for psychotherapy. Finally as each participant develops a greater understanding of their own neurology, this skill can act to combat compassion fatigue.
