Clinical training schools of thought put different emphasis on the value of diagnosis. Diagnosing is not an exact science, and sometimes harm comes from the labels children are given. At the same time, an accurate diagnosis can lead to specific, informed, effective treatment. And good interventions can be life-saving for kids and families. This training is designed to help clinicians distinguish between common diagnoses assigned in the world of child welfare. We will learn about differentiating between, and planning treatment for, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Although the symptoms overlap, there are also distinct differences, and different interventions are recommended to help children heal for each of these diagnostic categories. The training will be interactive and include case studies to help participants understand the diagnostic clarification process and help enhance their current practice with children and teens in the child welfare system.
