This training focuses on highlighting some of the many complexities of sexual abuse and trauma. Information will be presented on sexual abuse and the traumatic impact on children and adolescents. Training participants will then more closely examine the impact of sexual abuse and trauma while engaging in an interactive presentation and discussion about the connection between sexual abuse and sexual exploitation, reproductive health issues, and the pipeline to prison. Guidelines for working with youth who have experienced sexual abuse will also be presented and discussed.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  • Gain understanding of the impact of childhood sexual abuse.
  • Learn factors that determine how a child is impacted by sexual abuse.
  • Identify what to look for and how to talk to youth if you suspect sexual abuse.
  • Examine general principles for working with youth who have been sexually abused.
