Growing up in poverty can have lasting impacts on youth and their families. It is essential for providers working with foster youth to understand how their socioeconomic upbringing affects their ability to understand poverty and the challenges to get out of poverty. The trainers will discuss strategies for more effectively engaging individuals and families in poverty and ways to empower them. It is imperative to understand challenges poverty presents and how to address poverty as it can be a risk factor for a variety of unhealthy and dangerous situations such as mental illness, gang participation, involvement in the commercial sex industry, etc.
