Youth in care represent greater percentages of ethnic minority populations than the general population of youth. Because they are often placed in placements that are culturally dissimilar, and working with providers who are also culturally dissimilar, careful attention should be paid to the ways that caregivers and providers engage with youth’s cultural needs. The purpose of this presentation is to consider the role of culture in service delivery for children. The presenter will describe concepts of Cultural Humility, Cultural Awareness, and Cultural Competence so that participants will understand how to apply these concepts in their work with youth.
