In this class students explore the reasons that holidays can be especially triggering for youth in foster care. Students learn to distinguish between holiday blues and clinical depression. Students learn how to recognize risk factors and signs of suicidality, and how to most effectively intervene when confronted by suicidality. Students will also learn how to respect and incorporate the varying cultural differences of the youth in their care in relation to holidays, including holidays celebrated (or not celebrated), food, family involvement, gifts, etc.
