Children and youth involved in the child welfare/juvenile justice systems are at increased risk of having mental health issues related to their histories of trauma, abuse, neglect and negative environments. This three hour workshop provides participants an overview of mental health issues experienced by this population. This workshop reviews anxiety disorders and depression commonly associated, including post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, social phobia, and attention deficit hyperactive disorder. Participants have an opportunity to discuss their own experiences working with children and adolescents who have mental health issues. Participants will also be provided with treatment guidelines for working with youth with anxiety disorders and/or depression.
