For many mental health providers providing a suicide risk assessment and intervention can be an anxiety-provoking event. Mental health professionals often feel unequipped to provide an adequate risk assessment and intervention when a client is suicidal. However, most mental health professionals will encounter during their career a client that is experiencing suicidal ideation and behaviors. This 2 to 3 hour workshop provides mental health professionals tools that can be used immediately to provide a adequate risk assessment and help the clinician create a safer environment for their client. The workshop uses a variety of teaching methods including but not limited to movie clips, lecture, role-play, discussion and case study. Workshops can be customized to specific populations; for example, if serving older adults the workshop will focus solely on the older adult population. If not specified the workshop will cover all populations briefly, This workshop can also be customized for lay communities upon request. In this workshop the intention is that the attendees feel more comfortable asking about suicide and referring a person for more support and assistance. If you would like more information on that workshop please let me know. Please email WestCoast’s training department if you would like to attend this training at
