LGBTQ youth are over-represented in foster care, accounting for 10% of the population and 20% of youth in foster care. With this high likelihood that providers will work with LGBTQ youth at some point in their career, it is imperative that they have the skills they need to do so compassionately and effectively. We will discuss the current issues unique to LGBTQ foster youth as well as various methods and pathways to healing. SOGIE 101 over-represented in foster care, accounting for 10% of the population and 20% of youth in foster care. We will discuss the current issues unique to LGBTQ foster youth as well as various methods and pathways to SOGIE. This training is interactive and participants should be prepared to actively engage in group discussions. By the end of SOGIE 101 participants will have cultivated a set of tools around having courageous conversations regarding their own SOGIEs, as well as those of youth they serve, build upon their understanding of queer and trans terminology and assess the personal frameworks they hold when addressing SOGIE issues.
