Foster Care Training

NOTE: 3-Day Workshop

The need to communicate effectively and convey information in a manner that is easily understood by diverse clients in any clinical situation in which mental health services are provided, far exceeds the available number of bilingual, bi-cultural mental health professionals. Properly trained Interpreters can fill a critical role in improving the quality of care to clients whose first language is not English, ensuring accurate and complete communication to minimize risk and maximize appropriate care.

The MHiT was developed by the National Latino Behavioral Health Association (NLBHA) and National Asian American Pacific Islander Mental Health Association (NAAPIMHA) in collaboration with the California Department of Mental Health and Texas Department of State Health Services.

Intensive Skill-Building Curriculum for Interpreters

This intensive 3-day, 21 hour, workshop is designed to immerse bilingual interpreters in the principles and practices of interpreter communication skills. Participants must be proficiently fluent in at least one language other than English. Who should attend this training? Direct service staff, clinicians, administrative support staff, community members, contractors, consumers, case managers and others who use their bilingual skills to interpret for their agencies.

Who should attend this training?

Mental health providers who use interpreter services including psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, family therapists, nurses, and administrators working in the area of cultural competence.
