The family and children of a substance user suffers huge emotional toil as they witness the unpredictability of their loved one’s daily actions. The children that are part of these families often suffers without a voice. When the children of addicts are placed in foster care, extended family care, or juvenile detention centers they experience grief and loss. Understanding this can help the service provider recognize and respond to the various trauma related issues of youth in their care.
