Foster Care Training

Workshop participants will examine the diversity and range of human sexual experiences and intimate behaviors with a focus on youth and adolescents. Participants will explore conceptions of human sexuality and the ways that our social identities (gender, race, class, age, disability, religion, age, etc.) frame and impact beliefs/norms as related to sexuality. Finally attendees will explore, brainstorm, and have an opportunity to practice methods of engaging youth, staff, families, and others involved in client support, in these often challenging conversations. The goals of this training are to educate participants on sexual development and sexuality for youth including consideration of where young people acquire knowledge about sex and sexuality; work with participants to consider ways in which they can support individual clients in healthy and well informed sexual development; create a space where participants feel comfortable addressing aspects of sexuality that are often difficult to talk about in a public forum and finally, to educate participants on the ways in which they can work to create an open and comfortable environment with the youth they serve.
