A client’s desire to end his or her life is one of the most frightening dilemma’s a therapist can face and unfortunately, it is a reality that must be addressed. Suicidal thoughts and intentions are experienced by a variety of clients across age, ethnicity and socioeconomic status during their life span. Therefore, it is beneficial for therapists to know how to manage their own anxiety while sitting with a suicidal client. This process includes mindful awareness of the clinician’s experience while holding and assessing the clients’ suicidal desire, understanding how suicidality is functioning for the client and assess when additional support is needed. This training will provide updated strategies for therapist from diverse clinical approaches to assess and help clients experience relief from their suicidal thoughts and attempts.
