The goal of this training is to present participants with key concepts and skills around heterosexism that will enhance their ability to provide the best support to LGBTQI identified youth and their families. This includes but is not limited to the development of safe and affirming environments regardless of identity.

Through interactive exercises and dialogue, participants will develop a deeper understanding of the experiences of LGBTQI youth in our society, and in supported care. Attendees will examine how our identities may affect our interaction with the youth we serve and with one another and will explore the intersections of sex/gender and sexual orientation. Finally, we will consider ways to develop environments that support honest and open communication with the goal of developing spaces for all LGBTQI identified youth and their families.
