The DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition) has many significant differences from previous editions, including new diagnoses, changes to previous diagnoses, and a new classification system. In this course, participants will learn about the changes in diagnoses and multiaxial system. Participants will become familiar with the changes, and have the opportunity to apply this new knowledge to vignettes as well as to rethink current clients’ diagnoses.

Participants will:
  1. Increase their knowledge of the history of the development of the DSM-5
  2. Gain an understanding of the new structure of the DSM-5
  3. Understand how to diagnose using the DSM-5
  4. Learn about diagnoses that are new to the DSM-5
  5. Learn about changes to many of the diagnoses from the previous version of the manual
  6. Learn how to diagnose current cases using the new manual
