Social emotional skills include being aware of our emotions; being able to communicate our feelings safely; and being able to manage strong emotions. These skills allow us to calm ourselves; make and maintain positive relationships; and navigate conflicts. Children, youth and families who are involved in systems of foster care, child welfare and juvenile justice have typically experienced trauma that impedes the development of effective social emotional skills. The training will include experiential art activities; movement and breathing; lecture and case examples of using art, play and communication skills in therapy with children and youth.
