Clinical supervision of Associate Social Workers has a critical role in the development of mental health professionals. This course reviews the Board of Behavioral Science (BBS)clinical supervision and licensing requirements for Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC) and Licensed Psychologists. The components of clinical supervision will also be discussed including the clinical supervisor role, learning contracts, record keeping, case consultation guidelines and intern evaluations. Guidelines for providing group clinical supervision will also be discussed. Legal and ethical issues impacting clinical supervision will be reviewed including liability issues, minimizing liability, consent and confidentiality issues and mandated reporting guidelines. Ethical practice issues with both clients and supervisees will be discussed and the BBS regulations for unprofessional conduct are provided.

By the end of Day 1 of this course participants will be able to:
  1. Identify the BBS and BOP supervision and licensing requirements for LCSWs, LMFTs, LPPCs, and Licensed Psychologists.
  2. Describe the key components of individual and group clinical supervision including the supervisor role, learning contracts, record keeping, case consultation, group supervision guidelines, and supervisee evaluation.
  3. Identify the minor consent laws, mandated reporting laws, ethical best practices in providing supervision, and unprofessional conduct listed in the Business and Professions Code.
