Art can be a wonderful tool in the process of healing for children and youth who have experienced trauma. This training helps participants gain an introduction to the fundamentals of art interventions when working with at-risk children, youth and caregivers. Through experiential exercises and reflection participants will explore ways in which art can access emotions, build resources in response to trauma and increase regulation. Participants also learn about the full spectrum of media, from neat, precise pencil through more messy and free-form finger paints, along with which media are best suited to help various types of mental health issues. The training offers several strategies for children, teens and adults that can be utilized by caregivers, and ultimately by youth themselves for productive self-care and positive coping and development.
