Knowing and abiding by relevant laws and ethics that govern the fields of mental health practice are the backbone to best practice. This primer & refresher workshop, the first part of a two part course, is a review for veteran and novice clinician’s alike to stay abreast of updates, requirements and guidelines for a number of salient legal and ethical issues likely to be encountered over the course of working with system-involved youth, including, but not limited to, scope of practice, mandated reporting, standard of care, unprofessional conduct, privilege & confidentiality, and minor treatment.

Special attention will be afforded to those legal matters (i.e. – senate bills, assembly bills, propositions, etc.) and ethical matters that impact vulnerable populations (i.e. – LGBT, immigrant, etc.).

Participants will explore the application of legal and ethical issues in a number of identifiable hypothetical case vignettes and scenarios, and are invited to involve themselves in reflective case discussion, structured observations, exercises, and/or multi-media presentation.
