Foster Care Training

Training Overview:
This training will review how healthy attachment provides young children with an experience of the world that helps them develop trust, self-control and problem-solving skills. It will suggest strategies that parents and caregivers can use to work toward the formation of strong, secure attachments with young children while in out of home placement.

The presenter will review how feelings of attachment influence later social development and relationships. Reviewing how the primary relationship is the basis for all other relationships and it lays the foundation for the development of self-concept and self-regulation. Presenter will also identify and discuss eight key strategies to foster attachment, as well as identify developmental milestones associated with attachment.

Training Technique:
Presenter will be using lecture, written material and promoting participant discussion.

Training Objectives:
Participants will learn:

• Caregivers will learn eight key strategies in fostering attachment with children.
• Explore ways in which families can enhance attachment through care-giving and strength based parenting.
• Discuss identified risk factors that threaten the development of a secure attachment.
