This training focuses on some of the many complexities of sexual trauma experienced by girls. Training participants will then more closely examine the impact of sexual trauma while engaging in an interactive presentation and discussion about the connection between sexual abuse and sexual exploitation, reproductive health issues, and the pipeline to prison. Strategies for providing culturally and trauma-informed care for working with girls who have experienced sexual trauma will also be presented and discussed. Participants will explore self-care strategies for working with sexually traumatized girls.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  • Gain a better understanding of the impact of sexual trauma on girls
  • Gain skills for providing culturally and trauma-informed care
  • Identify what to look for and how to talk to girls if you suspect sexual abuse and sexual exploitation.
  • Be able to describe additional risks and consequences of sexual trauma: PTSD, sexual exploitation, reproductive health issues, sexual abuse to prison pipeline for girls
  • Examine strategies for working with and caring for girls with histories of sexual abuse/trauma
  • Identify self-strategies for working with sexually traumatized girls
