Domestic violence can have a devastating effect on families and on children. In this training we will cover an overview of the cycle of violence, the difference between conflict and domestic violence and an overview of the effects of violence on children. We will also look at how to engage men and fathers in the healing work in the aftermath of family violence. Simply excluding an abusive father is not enough to stop the cycle of domestic violence. Holding men who use violence responsible for their behavior and its effect on their children can provide better outcomes for the whole family. Special attention will be paid to working with Latino fathers and Latino families through the experience of our trainers. We will also hear from staff from the Family violence Law Center (http://fvlc.org/) speak to resources for families who are struggling with domestic violence.
