This training focuses on how cultural diversity impacts the supervision and care of youth in out of home care. Participants will develop working definitions of ethnicity, race and culture; as well as an increased understanding of the ways in which they have been socialized into a given set of beliefs about youth and adults from various racial and cultural backgrounds. Participants will begin to challenge their own socialization and patterns of behavior in order to provide the best possible care to the youth they serve. This training will also help participants heighten their awareness of communication patterns between and within cultural groups, improve inter-employee communication and relationships, and teach skills to effectively interrupt inappropriate speech and behaviors. Participants will learn techniques for introducing, talking about and celebrating cultural diversity with children in the group home.
