This training will serve as an introduction to the benefits and challenges of working with interpreters in the context of engaging youth and families who are not English speaking. Best practices and standard recommendations will be presented from a trauma-informed perspective. For the purposes of care for youth, interpreters are recommended for any person who does not have a high degree of proficiency in the language of the professional. Given the occurrence of non-native English speakers in the foster and probation systems, or at risk of involvement in those systems, this training will offer guidance for best practices in working with those youth who require an interpreter.
