The words foster and system-involved youth use can be indicative (and even diagnostic) of their mental, social, and physical state. Word selection can serve as a marker of emotional state, social identity, and cognitive styles. This training will explore the social and psychological implications of word use amongst foster and system-involved youth, with a focus on what client language can suggest about health-relevant mindsets and change processes. We will then link this work to the broader field of health literacy and health information delivery, learning to integrate these principles with key practices of science communication to support foster and system-involved youth with lifestyle and stress related conditions.
