Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) is a dyadic, relationship-based treatment for parents and young children aimed at restoring normal developmental functioning in the wake of trauma. Although CPP was initially designed for young children and their parents, CPP principles and strategies have been found to be useful in engaging parents in the treatment of older children and youth as well. The focus on restoring attachment relationships and establishing a sense of safety and trust within the parent–child relationship affirms the importance of parents/guardians in their children’s lives and provides a valuable foundation for families with children of all ages. This workshop will provide an overview of Child-Parent Psychotherapy principles. Clinical examples of how this approach can be useful in engaging families will be shared. Participants will be able to apply CPP concepts to actual cases and integrate these concepts into their own work through the use of vignettes and small group discussions.
