This training addresses the violence experienced by children and youth and the traumatic impact on their lives. We will define trauma, identify triggers, signs and symptoms, and recognize trauma driven behaviors. Trauma will be illustrated from a neuro-physiological point of reference and participants will examine ways to handle challenging behaviors and promote inner calming. Attention will be given to cultural factors, learning impediments and trans-generational violence in families. We will also examine some effective ways of working with the children, families within the context of their communities.

This highly interactive training will include a power point presentation, video clip and discussion. Last, but certainly not least, we will address ways for Service Providers to reduce the risk factors of Secondary Trauma AKA Compassion Fatigue.
