Mindfulness has become a mainstream intervention both for provider self-care and client wellbeing. Why does mindfulness work well for some and not for others? In our experience, this depends primarily on two things. First, the skill and attunement of the facilitator, and secondly the degree to which practices recognize and support the present moment state of the client’s nervous system. In this training, we will review the Polyvagal Theory, and learn about what it means to apply it when teaching mindfulness. When complemented by a thorough understanding of deep nervous system states, which provide information about what practices will be most useful to different individuals in different moments, we can tailor mindfulness practices to the present-moment state of the nervous system, thereby increasing their effectiveness.

This group will meet once per month. Attendance at every group is not mandatory. Every course will offer new and updated material and discussions. This group will serve as an open space to expand on and further explore the connection between mindfulness and the Polyvagal Theory.
