To understand the origins and meaning of the diagnoses given to youth, it is helpful to understand the history of diagnoses, the cultural considerations required when making diagnoses and the criteria for diagnoses most commonly used with system involved youth. Through lecture, video and vignettes, participants will learn about the history of mental health diagnosing, the definition of a mental health diagnoses and cultural considerations as they impact mental health diagnoses. DSM-5 diagnoses that are most commonly used with children, adolescents and young adults will be reviewed in depth.
