This training focuses on exploring the benefits and limitations of diagnoses for children in the foster care system. This includes the ways children are misunderstood in the foster care system, and the ways that trauma and cultural context are taken into account in a responsible way when providing diagnoses. This training also focuses on building clinician’s skills in looking at a complex history and clinical picture and accurately assessing and understanding the needs of the client and their families. Material in this presentation asks participants to continue to expand their understanding and thinking about ways that trauma as well as cultural factors impact the ways children and adolescents are seen in the foster care system.
