There is increasing information available that a child’s development is impacted in a myriad of ways by the exposure to traumatic life events. This training will examine the impacts of traumatic experiences on brain development. We will also examine the social emotional impact of trauma, as well as the impact of trauma on behavior. We will discuss the ways that symptoms of trauma show up differently at varied ages across childhood, especially in youth in the foster care and juvenile justice systems. Additionally, we will explore effective interventions for trauma and provide clinicians with tips for working effectively and thoughtfully with children in who have experienced trauma. Finally, we will focus on how to help system-involved children and families be resilient and thrive following traumatic events.
