course »The Impact of Multiple Placements on Youth

Date: 1/22/2019, 10:30 am—1:30 pm
County: Alameda County
Location: San Rafael
Sponsor: Catholic Charities / St. Vincent’s School for Boys
In this training, students are given an opportunity to put themselves in the shoes of foster youth, who for a variety of reasons have experienced loss. Much of this loss is related to the extraordinary stress which accompanies the many changes in placement associated with foster care, and in particular youth who have experienced the highest levels of trauma. In this training, students will evaluate the ways in which they can create a warm and welcoming environment for these youth and develop an understanding of the steps each caregiver can take to limit the number of moves a child has to make before discovering a placement that works to meet their needs. This training supports the goals of Continuum of Care Reform and the purpose of Short Term Residential Treatment Programs.
