The U.S. Surgeon General recently declared domestic violence to be the number one health concern in our country today; many youth involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems have been exposed to it. Domestic Violence can have a devastating impact on children, families, and our communities. Learn how to best recognize symptoms and behaviors related to Domestic Violence and how to best work with children and families affected by DV.

Participants of this training will increase their understanding of the following:

Day 1
  1. Name at least three effects that exposure to domestic violence can have on children
  2. Name at least three behaviors exhibited by children who have been exposed to domestic violence and how to look for them
  3. Examine the different forms of domestic violence, identifying the differences between them
  4. Identify at least two age specific indicators of domestic violence including impact on the brain
Day 2
  1. Identify at least two strategies for safety planning when working with individuals experiencing domestic violence
  2. Identify at least two reasons why some victims stay with their abusers
  3. Identify at least two ways to effectively and clinically work with victims who stay with their abusers
  4. Identify at least two tips for providers and caregivers to effectively help those affected by domestic violence
