The Abuse portion of the course is designed to provide staff serving in Group Homes and Short-Term Residential Treatment Placements (STRTP) behavior management strategies for staff working with traumatized youth and families. The aim of the course is to assist adults with an understanding of who the youth are, where they come from and why they do what they do, through an exploration of multiple forms of abuse often suffered by system involved youth. Participants will examine issues such as mandated reporting (to Child Protective Services or Police), developmental effects of abuses and the cycle of violence as it pertains to both parents and children.

The Healing Wounds portion of the course is designed to provide staff serving in Group Homes and STRTP’s behavior management strategies for staff working with traumatized youth and families. The aim of the course is to assist adults working with severely emotionally disturbance figure out possible prognosis and healing strategies. Participants will discuss effective tools and techniques for treatment of system involved youth.
